Desayuno y comienzo de la primera etapa del Camino de Santiago desde A Guarda.
Totally flat stage, in its first part, which runs parallel to the coast with the Atlantic Ocean as a witness, to go inland, before reaching Cabo Silleiro, through the Camiño de Portela and the Montes de Baredo, offering us impressive views of the Ocean and the Cies Islands, before ending in Baiona.
We highlight the fishing village of A Guarda, with its attractive port and the impressive Castro de Santa Tecla (National Historical Artistic Monument, 1st century BC), and its spectacular viewpoint from which we can see the mouth of the Miño River, as well as in Oia, the Monastery of Santa María (12th century)
In Baiona we will be surprised by its spectacular Parador de Turismo (Castillo de Montereal) and its splendid historic center.
Arrival in Baiona. Lodging.
Recommendation
For those with little physical preparation or who prefer to undertake the stage in a more calm and relaxed manner, it would be advisable to divide the stage into two days:
Etapa: A Guarda – Oia (12 Kms)
Stage: Oia – Baiona (18 Kms)
Breakfast and start of the stage.
We leave Baiona crossing the Miñor River through the Romanesque bridge of Ramallosa, and reaching the spectacular Ría de Vigo. Tree-lined and leafy areas; as well as the Cíes Islands on the Horizon will accompany us for the rest of the stage.
Arrival in Vigo, the most populous city in Galicia. Lodging.
Breakfast and start of the stage.
We started the walk from Vigo. Our route runs parallel to the coast until we reach the town of Arcade.
Half of the stage will run through the Senda da Traida das Augas. In our visual we will be able to see the Cies Islands, as well as the Rande Bridge and the Ensenada de San Simón.
When we arrive at the town of Redondela we will enter the route of the Central Portuguese Way and from here, we walk towards the town of Cesantes, with permanent views of the Vigo estuary.
After walking 4 Kms, we arrived at Arcade, famous for its well-known oysters and excellent restaurants where you can give a good account of its excellent seafood.
Arrival at Arcade. Lodging.
Breakfast and start of the stage.
Short and well-signposted stage of the Camino de Santiago from A Guarda. It does not present any major difficulties on a physical level.
We highlight the medieval bridge of Pontesampaio, which is located at the exit of Arcade, famous for an important battle in the War of Independence, where the French troops were defeated and meant their withdrawal from Galicia). We must pay attention before entering Pontevedra, since we have to take the river way of Rio do Gafos, just after the chapel of Santa Marta, a relaxed walk that will lead us to the city of Pontevedra.
Arrival in Pontevedra. End of the stage. Lodging.
Breakfast and start of the stage.
After Pontevedra and its monumental historic center, at this stage we immerse ourselves in rural Galicia, of numerous and small villages and houses secluded and hidden behind thick vegetation.
Small ways will take us to the thermal village of Caldas de Rei.
Arrival in Caldas de Rei. End of the stage. Lodging.
Breakfast and start of the stage.
Short stage that runs through small population nuclei and without large undulations of the terrain that invites us to relax and evade.
Arrival in Padrón. End of the stage. Lodging.
Spiritual Variant-Translatio
We can replace this stage on foot, with a boat trip from Vilanova de Arousa, through the ulla river to Pontecesures, and from this town on foot to Padron (2.5 kms)
Breakfast and start of the stage.
After spending the night in Padrón, where according to the Jacobean tradition he ran aground the boat with the remains of the Apostle Santiago, from Palestine, in a “Pedrón”, we headed to the end of our Camino.
Stage with more sections of asphalted tracks than its predecessors, but where much of the legend of the “translatio” of the Apostle passed, to the holy city of Santiago de Compostela.
Arrival in Santiago de Compostela. End of the stage and our Camino de Santiago from A Guarda. Lodging.

In the final stretch of the Portuguese road, from A Guarda to Santiago there are some establishments that for no reason you should not miss. Among these, we leave you:
A restaurant with flavor and family essence wherever you look at it. Bitardona Restaurant is located at number 30 of Calle O Porto de A Guarda.
In addition to offering the most representative dishes of the region, where seafood will always be the protagonists, they also offer a varied menu. This one adapts to all tastes and requirements, including gluten-free options.
The advantage of this wide variety they offer, is that you can find a variety of flavors, but, above all, of prices. It includes options of the day, especially designed for pilgrims who are passing through.
It is located on Rua Ventura Misa 64, in the center of the city of Baiona, La Boqueria is one of those tapas restaurants where you will feel at home from the first moment you arrive.
Its most famous options are undoubtedly octopus portions and exquisite prawns, but cakes are also the protagonists of the menu.
Apart from tapas, they also have options for lunch and dinner, strong with gluten-free proposals and dishes of the day. Here you will surely find something that suits your tastes in an easy and above all, delicious way.
The specialty of the area is fish and seafood and in O Xantar de Otelo this is fulfilled perfectly. This traditional restaurant is located on Estação Avenue, 27 in Redondela.
Its menus take an extensive tour of Galician cuisine, including delicious meats, lamb, cow and pork. They enjoy the particularity of offering fresh products of the day, so the flavor is simply of another level.
Here you can enjoy elaborate dishes, but without disguising the traditional flavors of Galician gastronomy. No matter what time you arrive, you will always find something that matches your tastes or cravings of the moment.
We could describe Loaira as a typical tavern, but with an extra touch of comfort and flavor. Located in the historic center of Pontevedra, specifically in the Praza da Leña. This is the perfect place to have a good meal and enjoy the magic of your surroundings.
His options in tapas are varied, strong with fish and seafood as protagonists. Of course, you can also enjoy a traditional menu where rice sets the standard.
Last but not least, in Loaira you will find a delicate and exquisite wine list. Most of it is made up of the wineries in the area, perfect to further enhance this delicious experience.
