The dates you choose to make the trip will significantly influence what luggage to take to the Camino de Santiago. However, we try to be as specific as possible below:

LIST OF WHAT TO BRING TO THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO

FOOTWEAR

It will be the most important piece of equipment to take to the Camino de Santiago, and to which you have to pay more attention. We believe that, as a general rule, footwear should be “trekking shoe” or similar, and may have “gore tex” fabric, although it is not essential. It is essential that the footwear with which you are going to walk is already used and previously tested, you should never use a new footwear to start your Way.

If you are going to buy a shoe to do the Camino, when you try it in the store, buy it 1 number larger than the one you usually use, because when you walk for a long time, your feet expand. It is important to follow basic tips to choose the footwear and take care of your feet on the walk.

SOCKS

It is advisable that the pilgrim’s socks fit well to the foot, that they do not have seams and when putting them on, make sure that there are no wrinkles. The wrinkles and creases in the seams would encourage the appearance of the dreaded blisters. It is convenient that in the backpack we carry a spare pair with us in case of rain.

TROUSERS

Depending on the time in which you are going to do the Camino, they can be long pants, shorts or sports-type tights, as they fit very well to the body, they do not weigh and, if it rains, they dry quickly. Because the tights are tight they are good thermoregulators of both cold and heat.

Footwear Camino de Santiago

TSHIRTS

We recommend those of a sports type, quick-drying and breathable well, never made of cotton. It is convenient that we also carry a spare shirt in the backpack.

COAT / RAIN CLOTHING

We have to take to the Camino de Santiago: Sweatshirts / Jackets / Raincoats / Raincoats, depending on the season of the year, always a raincoat or similar and a warm garment. The itineraries of the Camino de Santiago pass mostly through the North of Spain, and the weather is always uncertain.

CANE OR BORDER

It is very convenient that, during the march, we carry at least a cane or staff (wooden stick), as it will help us in our walk, as a support element, especially in the descents to unload the knees. On the climbs it will be another additional point of support.

CAP OR HAT

Especially in hot weather and to avoid heat stroke, we believe it is necessary to use this element.

BACKPACK

Very important element, especially if you are going to do a long Camino. The weight of the backpack should be approximately 10% of your body weight; For a person weighing 70 Kgs, the maximum weight of the backpack with its equipment must be 7 Kgs. You have to take the essentials in the backpack to the Camino de Santiago because, in case you need something during the Camino, you can buy it without problem any.

The backpack to take to the Camino de Santiago must be waterproof and all the equipment must go inside it, avoiding that, in case of rain, any part of it gets wet. Likewise, it is advisable that you have already used it before in your training walks or marches.

The backpack should be placed, the higher the better, at the height of the lumbar, the lowest part. The weight of the backpack must fall on this area, not on the shoulders, for this we must adjust all the straps of the same well, without tightening us excessively, or swinging.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO HIRE OUR SERVICES, WE WILL CARRY YOUR LUGGAGE FROM STAGE TO STAGE.

SUNSCREEN

In spring / summer, we consider sunscreen very necessary, in order to avoid burns on the neck, mainly. Bear in mind that you are always walking towards the west towards Santiago de Compostela and the sun will shine on your back during the stages.

FIRST AID KIT

Do we have to take Camino de Santiago from Sarria organized a medicine cabinet? It is important that we take a small one for a trip, with the essential and necessary material to treat the possible injuries or discomfort, more frequent, that may occur during the course of the stages. It is true that we will provide you with all the necessary support, and in our collaborating accommodations they will have a larger first-aid kit, in case of emergency you will be transferred to a health center.

This kit should have at least the following material: Betadine or disinfectant, tape, plasters, paracetamol, gauze, ibuprofen, petroleum jelly or moisturizer, needle and thread. If necessary, if you need any medicine, you can buy it on the Camino, as there are many pharmacies.

THE SUPPORT VEHICLE ON OUR ROUTES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ANY EMERGENCY.

FEEDING / HYDRATION

All physical exercise that requires additional effort, nutrition and hydration take on great importance. The most important meal of the pilgrim should be breakfast, since it will be in the morning when the main effort of the day will be made. The breakfasts that we offer to our pilgrims are as complete and varied as possible for this purpose.

In our backpack it would be advisable to carry: some energy bar, nuts, chocolate or some piece of fruit, such as banana or similar). It is also essential that we always carry water, either in a bottle or canteen. Along the route, you will find innumerable establishments (bars, restaurants, etc), where you can buy any food or drink you need.
